Buying CBD from Amazon? Be Careful

100's if not 1000's of CBD Oil on Amazon

If you’ve done a search on Amazon for CBD products, you will get literally everything under the sun in their catalog.  The demand for CBD products is all the rage right now and lots of people are looking to soothe their lives with something more natural than prescription medicine.  With major retailers like CVS, Krogers, and upcoming Whole Foods planning to bring CBD products to market, is it that far off to find the same products on Amazon.com?

CBD Oil vs. Hemp Oil

When you do a search for “CBD products” on Amazon, you’ll find literally, dozens of pages of products from oil to topicals to bath products.

But, if you look closely at the product images and labels, you’ll see there’s little mention of CBD in the product at all.

Many of the items are hemp oil extract.  Wait, isn’t Hemp Oil Extract the same as CBD since it’s extracted from the hemp plant?

NO!

CBD oil and hemp oil come from different parts of the cannabis plant. CBD oil uses the whole plant, while hemp oil comes from its seeds, but more recently, because of the growing CBD market, hemp oil derived from the seed of the plant is now more commonly referred to as hemp seed oil.

CBD oil is made from a variety of parts of the mature hemp plant including its stalks and flowers.

In order to get CBD and other compounds from the plant, they must be separated in a process called extraction.

Hemp Oil has many uses, especially for it’s Omega-3 Fatty Acids and it’s a great topical moisturizer.  As far as using Hemp Oil for stress relief and anxiety relief, you won’t find it here 🙁

So, why are Hemp products showing up for "CBD Products"?

I’d answer this by chalking it up to everyone looking to make a buck.  Lots of the products on Amazon are legitimate Hemp products, they’re just miscategorized, intentionally or unintentionally (I’m going with the former).  With the market trending for anything and everything infused with CBD, it’s not a wonder why people are trying to move their product to the uneducated consumer.

The unfortunate outcome of hemp products being sold and labeled as CBD products, is that the end user will not feel any effects that they think they should and therefore call CBD junk and snake oil and a scam product.

How do I avoid being scammed on Amazon for CBD products?

Unfortunately, the prevalence of these CBD oil scams on Amazon has created an unsafe shopping environment for new CBD users.

Unless you’re purchasing from an established CBD brand or an online store  that you’ve tried before, you should probably avoid buying CBD oil on Amazon, at least for now.

Amazon is a great marketplace platform where you can score some great deals; but for now, CBD is not one of those deals.

In the near future, Amazon will likely take the proper action to address this problem, but until then, we’ll have to survive without the convenience of Amazon Prime when shopping for CBD online.
